I honestly can't determine if this was a true story or embellished...honestly, I can't imagine someone consuming the amount of drugs ingested by the author, but damn did he appear to have one helluva interesting time!!The writing is quick and light and with just the right amount of detail and emotion to make it feel like you're sitting next to him waiting for a toke...

This book is an okay read, depending on what you're looking for of course. It is not a travel guide nor is it a book about the best places in Southeast Asia. As the title suggests, it is a book about a drug infused adventure around various countries in Southeast Asia. The author states that he went on this particular trip to look for experiences and have a great time, which he without a doubt, succeeded in. If you are looking for a different take on backpacking then this is a fairly enjoyable book to do that.
South East Asia, a tale of drugs and debauchery (Twisted travel tales) is a bad trip. I will first give you the positive aspects of the book. The author Bryce W James is a good writer. I like funny and crazy adventure stories but there are none within this book. I enjoy a good book that is outside the norms of society. To give you an example I am a fan of Tucker Max's first book, "I hope they serve Beer in Hell". But this book is not along those same lines. The stories within this book are sad and exploitive. There are many better contructed books within , many of them are even free. I do not recommend this book and I think the author's writing skill would be better served elsewhere.

If you have ever travelled in Asia and have come across these poorly dressed young people and wondered why they bother to travel in the first place,here is one eyeopener of a book.Fit for all age groups,especially worried parents.They will keep worrying.
